NOTES FROM INTRODUCTION:
Why are we making work now? Is there a point to it or is it just consumerism and our own vanity?
Blogs/websites/advertising – is this all dissolving what we do?
Where do I think my own work sits with in this context and is it even avoidable or inevitable and just part of moving forward?
RESEARCH HISTORICAL ON COMMUNIACTION AND MEANING VERSUS SUPREFICIAL AND MEANINGLESS
Talk about methodology – using what is available to you – I don’t use computer because of what it does to the image but by putting work on a blog that already changes it and takes it out of the context it was produced in.
How do I feel about it as a whole – is it, after all not just the inevitable progression of time and change or has something irreversible happened (internet) ??
STYLE OVER COMMUNICATION?
The evidence suggests that these images were not just used for decorative purposes, but due to the uninhabited nature of the caves in which they were found they are instead believed to have been used as a form of communication and information.
what may feel like intuition is actually more likely to be based on a complex system of structures which lead to thought, and so therefore they way we are now must in some way be a direct consequence of the things that came before it.
this perceived distance between the audience and what they are viewing has been developing for hundreds of years, and it may not be adequate to use comparisons with the past in order to judge the way we, as a collective culture now behave
The World Wide Web was invented in 1989 as a way of connecting computers across the world, through a series of independent network providers. By 1996, more than 25 million computers were connected in over 180 countries. This number has risen consistently ever since, and subsequently changed the way the world works forever.
The internet provides an infinite source of information and imagery all of which is instantly assessable
IS THE MODERN WORLD CAUSING LAZINESS?
Blogs – are they good or bad?
Good – allow people to put work up that they otherwise wouldn’t get a chance to//works in similar ways to real deadlines - updateing
Bad – what is the point of a blog other than to satisfy your own needs, therefore what are you making the work for? Too many blogs dissolution of images even further – removal again from object quality.
